Mr Wellington Mkhize

Mr. Mkhize, the founder, has been in the commercial property management space for over 20 years.

During this time, he managed a number of commercial portfolios of properties and office parks for various top companies that are industry leaders, such as Old Mutual, Eris Property Group, Griffin Holdings, and other privately owned property portfolios.

Mr. Mkhize began his career in commercial properties as a Leasing Consultant and later as a Leasing Manager at OPH(Olitzki Property Holdings), in Gandhi Square in May 2003.

OPH is a company responsible for the city rejuvenation, which brought about the cleaning and making safe of the then Van Der Bijl Square, now known as Gandhi Square. The change of name and the rejuvenation of this part of Marshalltown gave rise to the rest of great changes such as projects like the Main Street Mall, Fox Street Mall, the ABSA and Standard Bank precincts.

Mr. Mkhize’s role was to drive the change of retail to a level where all retail would be replaced by national brands in this area.

This was key in order to entice the middle- to high income earners back to spending shopping and spending lunch breaks and entertainment within this part of the CBD.

The rest is history, as the current retail mix will tell the story. This hub now has all the commercial banks, eateries, and the like of MTN and Vodacom, walk-in shopping centres, all are now thriving on the Gandhi Square.

Mr. Mkhize moved from the CBD to take a position of a Property Manager under the employment of Old Mutual Investment Group Property Investment (OMIGPI). Here he was responsible for 43 Commercial Properties, in the Johannesburg CBD, Newtown, Parktown( Wellington Road), Rosebank, Rivonia, Bryanston, Sunninghill and Sandton. Also some shopping centres around Midrand and Centurion.

Mr Mkhize has experience of more than twenty (20) years in the commercial property industry. This brief coverage is an attempt to cover his expertise.

Mr Mkhize is currently the Managing Director of Johannesburg Property Solutions (Pty) Ltd, now renamed to City Improvement District Solutions (CIDS), a company he founded in 2009.

Whilst he was with OPH, he participated and attended meetings of the Inner City Regeneration Charter accompanying Mr Gerald Olitzki (as written on the city of Johannesburg website- 9th November 2007, entitled – Inner city partners get on board).

He worked closely with Mr Gerald Olitzki as his right hand man, which meant that all
projects which were undertaken by OPH at that time were an outcome of the deliberations between Mr Gerald Olitzki and Mr Mkhize.

This meant attending various meetings and collaborating with a number of different stakeholders, involved in the Urban Renewal of the Johannesburg CBD, driven by the Johannesburg City Council through the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA).

Further, Mr Mkhize also got involved in participating in joint meetings with JICBC, CJP, CID and the Charter Committee for the Johannesburg CBD, both as a representative of OPH and later as a representative of Old Mutual

Later Mr Mkhize through his company, Johannesburg Property Solutions, now known as City Improvement District Solutions (CIDS) managed the Woodmead Office Park, now known as Western Boulevard on Western Services Road in Woodmead as his most recent project. In this time his excellent management of this office park earned him a letter of appreciation by the owners, Griffin Holdings (Pry) Ltd, this letter is attached on the Company Profile of JPS.

Mr Mkhize is now part of the Germiston Improvement District and an Executive Member of the Germiston Business Forum. This is driven by a quest to see cities becoming a place to work, stay and play.

The ultimate vision is to see revived cities throughout South Africa including the rural areas.
